## Abstract Individual techniques for the postoperative monitoring of free flaps vary considerably. In order to establish the currently preferred protocols, a survey was conducted among microβsurgeons in North America using a mailed questionnaire. Data were received from 95 centers for the monitori

FREE FLAP MONITORING: A REVIEW OF CURRENT PRACTICE
Despite their intuitive appeal, free flap monitoring technologies remain a largely unproven adjunct to microsurgical procedures. This paper is important in that it provides insight into the actual practice patterns of a large and diverse group of microsurgeons. Insofar as this is a representative sample of flap monitoring protocols, this work also helps establish a national "standard of care" for free flap monitoring.
Given the number of surgeons who now include microsurgical free tissue transfer as a routine part of their practice, there is remarkable uniformity to the methods of monitoring as well as the period of free flap monitoring. Clinical
