Abstract
The mass spectra of β, γ‐acetylenic‐α, β‐allylic alcohols are discussed. The main fragmentation is directed by the allylic position of the alcohol function. Deuterium labeling and the presence of a methyl substituent in different positions suggest that some degradations occur through a cyclic structure of the molecular ion. The Cope rearrangement, a normal thermal reaction of the compounds, is not observed under the mass spectrometric conditions used.
