✦ Synopsis

Abstract

In this article, two types of band‐pass filters using fractal‐shaped regular hexagon patch resonators are proposed and optimized in detail.Because of the space‐filling property of the fractal geometry, the resonant characteristics of the filters are reported for the first time and can be adjusted by changing the parameters of the fractal‐shaped structures. Using etched fractal‐shaped defected structures in the regular hexagon patch resonators, the filters have many remarkable advantages, such as compact size, high selectivity, transmission zeros, and simple structure. Two types of band‐pass filters are designed, fabricated, and measured. The measurement results of the proposed band‐pass filters are in good agreement with the simulation ones. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract In this contribution, it is shown that complementary spiral resonators (CSRs) are useful particles for the miniaturization of planar microwave components based on metamaterial concepts. Specifically, we will focus on two different applications: (i) the design of high pass filters based
