The recent merger of Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve University into a federation of the two umversltles forms the centre of academic hfe in the Cleveland area. There are approximately 10 000 students and 1 200 faculty in 70 academic departments. Members of the conference were invited to tour the low temperature research faclhtles, which include studies of superconductivity and solid state physics.
The conference technical programme was dlvlded into 12 technical sessions and eight seminars On the opening morning, the delegates assembled in Strosaker Auditorium to hear four invited papers The remainder of the three days consisted of parallel sessions and seminars, which included discussions of thermodynamic properties, structural materials, superconductivity, heat transfer and fluid dynamics, cryosystems, instrumentation, and refrigeration
