✦ Synopsis

The application of Fourier transform (FT) Raman spectroscopy to two pigment samples of mediaeval wall paintings and the identiÐcation of the pigments used are reported. The potential of FT-Raman spectroscopy as a non-destructive technique to examine valuable artistic and archaeological artefacts is demonstrated.

The isolated a-subunits of the light-harvesting pigments phycoerythrocyanin (PEC) and C-phycocyanin (CPC) of Mastigocladus laminosus were studied by resonance Raman (RR) spectroscopy. The results for PEC indicate that the photoconversion of the tetrapyrrole chromophore from the Z,Z to the Z,E conÐgu
