✦ Synopsis

Ahstraet-The results of a Fourier Transform study of the degradation of an acrylonitrile copolymer containing approx. 4 wt% of acrylamide at 160°C under a reduced pressure of 5 x IO-* Torr, are presented. A mechanism is proposed for the degradation that is consistent with the IR spectral evidence.

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and copolymers of PAN containing comonomers of vinyl acetate (VAc), methacrylic acid (MAA), acrylamide (AM) and other acrylics are important precursors to the formation of carbon fibers. Fourier transform IR spectroscopy has proved to be an excellent technique with which to

Copolymers containing acrylamide (A) and acrylonitrile (B) units of different compositions were synthesized by free-radical solution polymerization. The reactivity ratios were estimated by the Kelen Tudos and nonlinear error-in-variable methods. The triad sequence distribution in terms of A-and B-ce
