✦ Synopsis
The first extensive analysis of the (a^{1} \mathrm{I}{\mathrm{g}} \rightarrow a^{\prime} \mathrm{\Sigma}{u}^{-}-)system of ({ }^{14} \mathrm{~N}{2}) is reported. The spectrum has been recorded by high-resolution Fourier transform spectrometry between 2500 and (7500 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}) using a supersonic jet and a classical microwave discharge. Accurate molecular parameters of the (a^{\prime 1} \Sigma{u}^{-}, a^{\prime} I_{g}), and (w^{\prime} \Delta_{u}) states are determined by fitting simultaneously the whole set of wavenumbers of the two (a \rightarrow a^{\prime}) and (w \rightarrow a) systems. The RKR potential energy curve of the (a^{\prime \prime} \Sigma_{u}^{-}) state is then derived and Franck-Condon factors for the (a \rightarrow a^{\prime}) system are calculated. Predissociation is observed in the (a^{1} \mathrm{II}_{\mathrm{k}}(\boldsymbol{v}=7)) level. c 1994 Academic Press. Inc.
