✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Transparent wavelength conversion based on four‐wave mixing(FWM) in a SOA and in a HNDSF is experimentally demonstrated for a 43Gb/s return‐to‐zero frequency shift keying(FSK) signal. When a return‐to‐zero FSK signal propagates through the SOA or HNDSF, the wavelength will be converted and the waveform will be reshaped due to the FWM effect. Our experiments show that the performance of the converted signal is enhanced due to the reshaping characteristics, which indicates the potential of FWM as bit rate transparent wavelength conversion mechanism in future high‐speed systems. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
