โฆ Synopsis
Contemporary social science is reminiscent of the old story of three blind men examining an elephant. One touches the trunk, one the side, and one the leg, and each comes up with a different description. The rigid compartmentalization of social sciences today reflects the rapid accumulation of information in the twentieth century and the development of specialized methodology and jargon that has excluded scientists in other disciplines. The segregation of sociologists, psychologists, and other specialists therefore may be considered a necessary evil, but can each of the disciplines adequately address by themselves complex social problems such as rape?
The book on Theories of Rape by Baron and Straus is one view of rape in contemporary American society. It is a book by sociologists for sociologists and it does not attempt to present the criminological or psychological aspects of rape or of the rapist.
