โฆ Synopsis
Yttrium-Barium-Copper-Oxide ( (\left.\mathrm{YBa}{2} \mathrm{Cu}{3} \mathrm{O}{\mathrm{x}}\right)) thin films are prepared using laser ablation. The (<100\rangle) orientation of the (0.2-0.3 \mu \mathrm{m}) thin film is controlled using both substrate temperature and deposited buffer layers for epitaxial growth. Highly textured films are prepared with a c-axis preferred orientation using substrates of (\mathrm{SrTiO}{3}(100)) and (\mathrm{MgO}(100)) at a temperature of (780^{\circ} \mathrm{C}) whereas a,b-axis films result if a (100 \mathrm{~nm}) buffer of Praseodymium-Barium-Copper-Oxide (\left(\mathrm{PrBa}{2} \mathrm{Cu}{3} \mathrm{O}{\mathrm{x}}\right)) is first deposited at (700^{\circ} \mathrm{C}). The use of a (15 \mathrm{~nm}) buffer layer of (\mathrm{SrTiO}{3}) on (\mathrm{MgO}) (100) produces films with superconducting transitions equivalent to those (\mathrm{YBa}{2} \mathrm{Cu}{3} \mathrm{O}{\mathrm{x}}) films deposited directly on (\mathrm{SrTiO}{3}(100)) substrates.
