Oxidative free radical cyclizations of 8-ketoesters 1,5, II, and 14 with Mn(OAc)s*2H20 and Cu(OAc)z*HaO proceed in moderate yield to give seven-and eight-membered rings. The regiochemistry of the cyclization and oxidative termination are described.
