In 1865, as the rest of the nation was distracted by the news that John Wilkes Booth had been caught and killed, one of the biggest maritime disasters of the world took place. Over 1800 brave soldiers died on the ill fated passenger steamer Sultana and the tragedy was known to very few. This book is about what happened on the morning of April 27th, when soldiers who had just been liberated from the war camps stood on board the Sultana waiting eagerly to finally go home. It is a story of courage, greed and heartbreak that history forgot. This book also contains the stories of the survivors and their comrades who were lost.
