Life is unbearable for young and beautiful Lizzie Baines when her cruel stepfather sells her to Captain Preston, and she runs away when she knows he is drunk. She seeks safety and sanctuary with Miss Jane Gibson a wealthy older woman who has taught her in Sunday school.
