โฆ Synopsis
Forensic psychiatry in Bulgaria has been influenced by German, Russian and French concepts. Constrained by Soviet ideology, psychiatry in Bulgaria was affected by such political factors, but no real equivalent of the issue of Russian dissidents occurred. Concomitantly the positive Soviet orientation towards an effective system of community psychiatric care has been provided. With greater national independence in Eastern Europe, psychiatry in Bulgaria is now more amenable to liaison within the international community. Political and economic instability may hinder adequate development.
