✦ Synopsis
A multiple linear regression equation is derived to forecast flowering dates and duration of flowering period, using meteorological variables, for three varieties of dessert apples grown at Brogdale, Kent, U.K. Using areal departures from average of monthly mean temperature from December to February, of mean 30 cm earth temperature for March and on-site mean daily sunshine for March, it is possible to forecast flowering dates to within a few days some 3 to 8 weeks in advance of the actual flowering date.
