✦ Synopsis

The force constants of methyl phosphorus(II1) dicyanide and methyl arsenic(II1) dicyanide have been calculated using a simple valence force-field approximation with interaction constants. The assignments of the observed infrared and Raman spectra are discussed in the light of these calculations. Several revisions of the previous tentative assignments are proposed.
