✦ Synopsis

It's the 1950's. Sammy is a dreamy loner and trying to come to terms with his dad's death. Sammy finds an old book which his dad left behind. Unbeknown to him it is an ancient magical book possessing massive powers. Also unknown to him evil people in far off lands are searching for the book. The streetwise Mog is Sammy's best friend. Unlike Sam he's practical and nobody's fool. Sam's teacher is always taking the mickey out of him. A new girl, Lucy, arrives at their school. There begins a mysterious attraction between Sam and Lucy. Sam is confused by Lucy and by the new powers he seems to possess. The wicked Queen Obeah learns that Sammy has the magic book and is determined to retrieve it at whatever cost. Supported by his friends, Sam has to fight against the queen's beautiful sister and her vile servant, the fat man. Sammy makes mistakes along the way and has to overcome his own fears. He is fascinated by Miss Rose his enchanting new teacher. He falls out with Lucy. The school mysteriously burns down. Mog and Lucy rescue his book. Sam's grandad takes Sammy and Mog on a train trip to the seaside. Sam dreams about seeing his footprints in the sand leading back to when he was a little child. He goes out for a walk on his own and strangely finds Lucy here by the waterfall. It is then that he comes face to face with Queen Obeah in the final volcanic confrontation on Forge Mountain.
