✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Folded‐loop antennas for mobile handsets are analyzed, taking into account the influence of the human body. Folding the loop antennas toward the back of a metallic box is found to reduce the peak SAR averaged over 1 g and 10 g of tissues by 30% to 60%, while the radiation characteristics are comparable with those of a monopole antenna. ## Abstract A variable‐gain amplifier for an adaptive antenna at the ISM band is presented. The amplifier consists of three stages and has a digital control. The device is made on a printed circuit board. The amplifier's maximum gain, noise figure, and output compression point are 31.2 dB, 5 dB, an
