The current applications of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the thorax have been relatively limited compared with those in the central nervous, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal systems. The potential for applications in the thorax are indeed significant, as can be seen in this focused special issue concentrating on current status and future potential.
