the incidence of this finding increases with the duration of surgery prior to biopsy. They are almost never found in biopsies taken immediately upon entering the abdominal cavity and are found in up to 74% of biopsies taken at the end of a long procedure (2-4).

Another finding also often seen in surgical biopsies is the presence of linear accumulations of polymorphonuclear leukocytes immediately beneath the liver capsule, usually associated with hemorrhage and necrosis of hepatocvtes. Such lesions can be Droduced bv intentional
