✦ Synopsis


The fluorescent probes auramine-O (Au O) and 8-anilino-1-napthalene sulfonic acid, ammonium salt (ANS) were employed to determine the transition value for the conversion of reverse micelle to microemulsions in non-aqueous microemulsion systems containing diisooctylsodium sulfosuccinate (AOT) as the surfactant, n-alkanes as oil and various polar solvents. The n-alkanes used were hexane, heptane, octane and isooctane. The polar solvents employed were ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, and tetraethylene glycol and their aqueous mixtures. The effect of the oil's chain length and the mass of polar solvent on the transition values were investigated.
