✦ Synopsis
On 88 human syphilitic sera FTA-tests were performed with heated Reiter-treponemes as antigen. 71 gave positive results in a dilution of 1 : 100 and 53 in a dilution of 1:500. The control group gave positive results only in 2 cases. The results give evidence for a heatstable groupspecific antigen in Reiter-treponemes and T. pallidum. The relationship of this antigen to lipopolysaecharides is discussed.
Human antibodies against this antigen could be demonstrated with immunofluorescence only.
