Non-radiative fluorescence energy transfer measurements have been used to characterize solvent penetrability and site accessibility of labelled copolymers. These polymers were either soluble, crosslinked or grafted on porous silica. Carbazole chromophore, involved as an energy-transfer donor, has be

✦ Synopsis
Abstract~omparison of solvatochromic shift of fluorescent probes attached to various supports with values obtained for the free probes in the same set of solvents is a way to examine the micro-environment of the fluorophore. Interpretation of emission spectra of dansyl probes bonded to native or neutralized silica, either directly or via polar or non-polar polymers, allows determination of the influences of organic and inorganic parts in bi-supported functional sites.
