The C 'x+-X Ix+ transition of NrrK folloutig ewitatmn by the KS 5309 Iz laser ltnc IS observed. The molecular constants and the potent& curvc of the C tx+stute are determined. It IS shown that the C tS* state bes above the B '11 state. Tke mecbnmsm responstbk for Na and K D-bne fluorescence is dlscusscd.
