Results are presented of the effect of elevated temperature and pressure on the laser-induced fluorescence of ketone molecules. The fluorescent yield of ketones was found to decrease with temperature but was unaffected by pressure for a 266 nm excitation and broadband collection.

The radiative lifetime of free excitons in anthracene is shown to be less than 1.9 ns at 5.4 K and appears to increase with temperature. This is attributed to the super-radiant behavlour predicted for states at the bottom Gf the exciton band.
