✦ Synopsis
Local structures around Mn atoms in MnF -CaF superlattices and double heterostructures DHSs grown by molecular 2 2 Ž . Ž . beam epitaxy MBE were investigated by fluorescence extended X-ray absorption fine structure EXAFS measurement. Ž . The EXAFS analysis revealed that in thin MnF layers F 3 ML fluorite structure that does not exist at normal conditions 2 prevailed over the rutile structure, and the content ratio of the fluorite MnF strongly depended on the thickness of the MnF 2 2 layer. Therefore, the thin MnF layers grew in fluorite structure on CaF and changed to the rutile structure with the increase 2 2
of the MnF layer thickness.
