✦ Synopsis

The absorption and emission spectra of pyrene substituted tri-and hexa-silanes are reported. o(Si-Si) +rc*(pyrene) chargetransfer fluorescence is observed for I-( I-pyrenyl) tridecamethylhexasilane but not for I -( 1 -pyrenyl)hepta-methyltrisilane. This is explained by the difference in oxidation potential of the tri-and hexa-silane chain. The emission of the bichromophoric systems 1,6-di ( I-pyrenyl)dodecamethylhexasilane and I-(4_N,Ndimethylanilino)-6-( I-pyrenyl)dodecamethylhexasilane is mainly determined by the u+z* charge transfer. 1,3-di-( I-pyrenyl)hexamethylhexasilane and l-(4-N,Ndimethylanilino)-3-( l-pyrenyl)hexamethyltrisilane show respectively excimer and exciplex emission.

The migration of alkylpyridinium surfactants and pyrene-substituted fatty acids between vesicles has been studied. The results are in accord with the assumption of diffusion-controUed processes. Changes in relaxation time with charge type, degree of ionization, pH, and alkyl chaha length of the migr
