โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

Manipulation of ฮณโ€aminobutyrate (GABA) system has been little studied in Parkinson's disease, despite the fact that GABA subserves a large part of the basal ganglia, including the outflow tracts. To test whether antagonism of GABA could improve features of PD, we administered open label intravenous flumazenil to eight practically defined off patients and assessed UPDRS scores, bilateral 1โ€minute handโ€tapping speed, and timed gait tests. Patients demonstrated significantly greater tapping speed, which peaked 40 minutes after injection (P < 0.05). Total motor Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale scores modestly improved (P < 0.05). There were no adverse events. Mechanisms by which flumazenil could improve PD are discussed. ยฉ 2003 Movement Disorder Society

## Abstract Recent studies support the idea of olfactory dysfunction as a very early sign of idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD). Aim of the present study was to clinically followโ€up patients with idiopathic hyposmia to find out the percentage of patients developing IPD after 4 years time. At base

## Abstract We report on a 28โ€yearโ€old man who presented with right hand tremor, bradykinesia, and rigidity of his right side extremities. Our case report emphasizes that markedly asymmetrical parkinsonism can be an initial presentation of adultโ€onset Huntington's disease (HD), and different clinic

## Abstract Paroxysmal exerciseโ€induced dystonia (PED) is a rare, typically idiopathic familial condition, although sporadic and secondary cases have been reported. We present 2 cases where PED was the presenting feature of youngโ€onset idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD), preceding the onset of par
