✦ Synopsis
Unconventional methods are checked up for identification of trickling-pulsing flow regime transition in trickle-bed reactors from pressure fluctuations time series. Methods consist in calculating the standard deviation, the Fourier power spectrum, the Hurst exponent of the sample sequential taken as a record and the correlation dimension of the attractor describing the system dynamics. Flow transitions determined from these methods are found to agree with those judged by ocular inspection. Effects of particles mixtures with different wetting features and of liquid foaming character are systematically studied. Both variables affect flow transition. However, a preeminence of the liquid foaming character is found, c Elsevier Science Ltd
