The spectrophotometrx determmatlon of propoxur [2_(1-methylethoxylphenyl methyl carbamatel was camed out with p-ammophenol (PAP) m a flow system The method mvolves the on-lme hydrolysis wnth NaOH of propoxur to 2-lsopropoxyphenol and the oxtdatlon of PAP to its reaae qumone nnme with KIO., and the reactloo between the phenolate and the qumone mune A four-channel flow mamfold was employed to carry out all the merent steps of the reamon comudered, momtormg the mdo dye formed at 600 nm The developed procedure prowdes a typical cahbration hne of A = -0 000, + 18 x 103C (A = absorbance, C = concentration m M) wth a regressIon coefficient of 0 9998 and a lmut of detetion, for a probabtity level of 95% (for K = 3) of 0 1 p.g ml-' In the analysts of synthetic samples contammg propoxur and 2-lsopropoxyphenol, the total concentration of propoxur was determmed with a recovery from 94% to 98.3% The method prowdes results comparable to those obtamed by the batch analysis of natural water samples spllred mth propoxur K@words Flow mJe&on, UV-Vulble spectrophotometry, Pestlades, Propoxur, Waters
