✦ Synopsis
Ammonmm eons m natural waters at the 50 pg I-' level were determmed usmg Nessler reagent after preconcentratlon m a cation-exchange column coupled to a flow-inJectIon analysis (FIA) system The loadmg cycle, the elutlon cycle and the regeneration cycle were programmed for the resm used The zone samphng approach usmg a computer-controlled commutator was employed m the FIA system design Flow rates, resm loadmg, elutlon time, loop dlmenslons and resamphng times for the zone samphng, column and cods drmenslons, sensltmty and reproduclblhty were studled The detectlon hmlt was Improved tenfold over an earher method that did not use a concentration step A throughput of 45 sample analyses per hour was achieved for samples wth concentrations ranging from 50 to 500 pg I-' Tbe results show agreement to better than 99% wth those obtamed by the manual procedure
