✦ Synopsis
A study of the fluid dynamics in low height packed column having very large fractional void space was carried dut to investigate pressure drop, liquid holdup and stable operating range. Operation was carried out at high gas velocities using four kinds of liquids. Results provided the possibility operating the column at high gas velocities, which leads to energy conservation. The pressure drop and liquid holdup were found to be useful parameters in checking the performance of the packed column. A model to calculate pressure drop in the-packed column with very large fractional void space is presented by taking into account the liquid holdup contribution. Further, empirical correlations for static and dynamic liquid holdup are given.
