✦ Synopsis

Measurements hare been made of the fluorescence hfetimes of se\ en1 akmes in the collision-free vapour state. The fIuorescence lifetimes decreased with increasing energy of excitation, but the lifetimes of molccuIes exrted near the zeropoint level exhibited values similar to the neat liquid .dues, indicting the absence of .I very strong solvent perturbation of the low-lying ewited states. Added gas produced vIbrationa relaxation as evidenced by the increase m lifetime in molecuks excited we11 Jbove the zero-point level.

Ar. analysis of the fluorescence of 3,4-benzpyrene in the vapour phase shows two contributions to the.
