โฆ Synopsis
AFWS-40 is a specially designed tow barge comprising two desalination plants, a nuclear steam supply system, steam-turbine plant for preparation of potable water, and auxiliary and ship support systems. It is intended to supply fresh water to the shore areas of the Mediterranean Sea. The major source of power supply -the NSSS of enhanced safety -is the analogue of plants installed at the Soviet nuclear powered icebreakers with a total of more than 110 reactor-years of trouble-free operation. The desalination plant is the analogue of plants successfully operating in Shevchenko. The plant, which prepares potable water from thermally desalted water, will supply consumers with water of high quality and conform to WHO requirements. The price of this potable water is competitive with the world market.
