โฆ Synopsis
The First World Conference on Computer Based Education in Banking was held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, March 27-29, 1985 under auspices of the International Foundation for Computerbased Education in Banking (IFCEB), Amsterdam. The conference included a large hardware, software and courseware exhibition and featured the presentations of seventeen speakers who covered almost all aspects of the computer as a learning and teaching medium in bank training. The presentations are abstracted below.
Greg Kearsley, Courseware, Inc., San Diego, California, opened the conference with an overview of t "CBE Today". Benefits of CBE were noted as reduced training time, increased control, individualized instruction, timeliness/availability, reduced training resources, improved job performance, increased learning satisfaction and convenience. Kearsley described good software as instructionally sound, usable, motivating, visually stimulating, flexible and reliable. He also cited several CBE success factors: user involvement, level of commitment, necessary resources, readiness of technology, acknowledgement of training need and clear-cut results.
Leif K. Jakobsen, Danish Savings Bank, Copenhagen, followed with a "Panorama of CBE in Banking in Europe". He noted great differences among the European countries in hardware used, pedagogical qualities of systems and histories of CBE development.
