THE FIRST Heyrovskf Discussion was organised by the J. Heyrovskf Institute of Polarography under sponsorship of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences at Liblice Castle (near Prague) from 17th to 20th April 1967. The meeting was devoted to discussion of adsorption at mercury electrodes. The following introductory papers were presented: L. LAWRON, The role of aakorption in electrode reactions of organic compounds. G. A. Tsno~zn, Aa!sorption of electroactive compounds. J. VOLKB, Orientation ofparticles at the mercury electrode. H. D. Humvrrz, Intuence of the double layer on a homogeneous chemical reaction preceding the electrode process.

About seventy electrochemists from Czechoslovakia and from abroad participated at the meeting. The Heyrovsw Discussions, concerned with various topics of electrochemistry, are planned to take place every year. The theme of the second Discussion (Spring 1968) will be Electrochemical Catalysis.
