โœฆ Synopsis

First geotechnica to be held in Cologne in 1991 Market leaders have already registered Around 300 companies from home and abroad g technica Approximately 300 exhibitors from European and overseas countries are expected to participate at geotechnica -International Trade ~ ) Fair and Congress for Geo-sciences and Technology -which will be organised for the first time in Cologne from 18th to 21st September 1991. This means the number of participants will be well above the cautious initial forecasts. Alfred-Wegener-Stiftung,

geoteehnica, which is organised Bonn by the K61nMesse and sponsored by the Alfred Wegener-Foundation in Bonn, will be held in exhibition Hails 5, 6, 7 and 8 and cover approx. 86,000 sq.ft, of space. The new event in Cologne will close the gap between the heavy demand for geotechnical systems, techniques and solutions, which is constantly growing with each new environmental problem, and the product ranges which will be shown in Cologne by the precision and optical industries, manufacturers of all kinds of measuring apparatus, the vehicle industry, hardware and software suppliers for information and communications systems, mechanical engineering companies and producers of laboratory technology. This involves almost all segments of the investment goods industry as well as suppliers of know-how: representaties of service sectors in consultancy firms who will introduce themselves in the numerous market leaders have already registered, including companies from the geodesy, photogrammetry, cartography, close and remote sensing sectors, waste disposal technology, measuring technology and environmental technology.

A large number of non-German companies will exhibit at geotechnica as part of a group participations in which suppliersoften small and middle-sized companies with enormous technological potential -can exhibit together. Groups will come from Canada, Australia and the Scandinavian countries and are generally being organised by state export organisations such as the Department of External Affairs and International Trade Canada, Ottawa. The Canadian group participation will focus on the remote sensor equipment, geophysics and exploration sectors. At present, Germany is the leader in the exhibitor statistics followed by Canada, Great Britain, Switzerland, the USA, Australia, France and Belgium.

Groups from the Federal Republic of Germany will also be participating. The Technological Centre in Hildesheim will be introducing its members on its group stand and most of the German states will be represented by their respective universities and geotechnical institutes. A number of associations and other institutions will be using the four-day fair to stage their own events too. This includes, for example, the annual meeting of the German Association of Officially Recognised Surveyors (BDVI), and a conference organised by the German Photogrammetry Society. Not only they will enhance the trade fair and congress content; this also applies to the efforts on behalf of geotechnica by organisations such as the European Space Agency (ESA), the German Aerospace Research Establishment (DARA) or the German Federal Ministry for Research and Technology, which will be representing their respective specialist fields as exhibitors in Cologne.
