✦ Synopsis
Measurements of near-infrared water vapour continuum using continuous wave cavity ring down spectroscopy (cw-CRDS) have been performed at around 10611.6 and 10685:2 cm À1 . The continuum absorption coefficients for N 2broadening have been determined to be C 296 K F ¼ ð1:0 AE 0:2Þ Â 10 À24 cm 2 mol À1 atm À1 and C 278 K F ¼ ð1:8 AE 0:4Þ Â 10 À24 cm 2 mol À1 atm À1 at 10611:6 cm À1 , and C 296 K F ¼ ð1:6 AE 0:5Þ Â 10 À24 cm 2 mol À1 atm À1 and C 278 K F ¼ ð2:1 AE 0:4Þ Â 10 À24 cm 2 mol À1 atm À1 at 10685:2 cm À1 , respectively.
These results represent the first near-IR continuum laboratory data determined within the complex spectral environment in the 940 nm water vapour band and are in reasonable agreement with simulations using the semiempirical CKD formulation.
