โฆ Synopsis
Whilst the majority of the text is concerned with structural design, aspects such as escape, evacuation and smoke control are also covered. The text gives the background to the limit state fire design of structures using both hand calculations and computer simulation. It covers design both to current British Standards and Eurocodes for all common structural materials. The book commences with an overview of the rationale of limit state fire design before going on to discuss, in general terms, the methods that may be used. It then covers compartment temperature time responses in a natural fire before discussing the standard fire test. The next main section is concerned with the physical behaviour of materials at elevated temperatures before considering the performance and design of structural elements and structures in concrete, steel, timber and masonry exposed to fire conditions. The book concludes with a section on assessment of structures following a fire and methods of repair of fire damaged structures. The text is annotated with reference to recent research, includes worked examples as appropriate and includes full references. As far as the author is aware no current English text covers both Eurocode and British Standard design methods.
