✦ Synopsis

A rectangular, singly curved, finite strip shell element and a compatible thin walled, open section beam element are derived. Convergence studies for freely supported and clamped, singly curved, rectangular shells show that only a few strips need be used to obtain good accuracy. Both five bay and 15 bay skin-stringer structures are analyzed. The results show that the frequencies and mode shapes obtained agree closely with transfer matrix results and experimental measurements.
