✦ Synopsis

Three weighted residual methods are used to analyse several linear and nonlinear model problems related to the stream function-vortidty formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations. These methods are then used to solve the driven cavity problem. 'The results obtained at Reynolds numbers of 100 and 400 compare very favourably with those obtained by finite difference and spline methods on meshes using at least four times as many mesh points.
