โœฆ Synopsis

Carpenter, Read, and Dodds [i] recently obtained an expression for the total energy release per unit of $ocal crack extension for 3D geometries. This term, termed j, is valid for a material characterized by incremental plasticity and is given by J(s) = Jal(s) + SC2(s) + JC3(s) + JAl(S) + SA2(s) + JA3(s) (i) where "s" denotes a point on the crack front. JC. denotes a line integral 1 evaluated over a contour that lies in the principal normal plane of the crack front at "s" and that encloses the crack tip. JA. denotes an integral i evaluated over the area enclosed by the contour.

This article deals with the local quality on stresses produced during finite element analysis in 3D linear elasticity. We use an estimation technique based on the concept of error in constitutive relation, which yields excellent estimates of the local errors without requiring the approximate calcula
