We present a numerical approximation of the Giesekus equation which is considered as a realistic model for polymer flows. We use nonconforming finite elements on quadrilateral grids which necessitate the addition of two stabilization terms. An appropriate upwind scheme is employed for the convective

## Abstract We consider steady state and time‐dependent flows of chemically reactive polymeric systems in two‐dimensional geometries. A numerical simulation tool is proposed for predicting the evolution of the macroscopic velocity, temperature, stress and species concentration fields in such flows.

In this paper, we are concerned with a simplified hydrodynamic equation, proposed by Ericksen and Leslie, modeling the flow of nematic liquid crystals. For a bounded domain in R 3 , under the assumption that initial density belongs to L c (X), c > 3 2 , we show the global existence of weak solutions
