## Abstract The finite‐difference time domain (FDTD) method is successfully used to analyze characteristics of a U‐slot patch antenna without using commercial software packages such as HFSS, IE3D, and CST. The method is proved to be an efficient tool for deep insight studies on complicated patch an

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A general numerical solution based on finite‐difference time‐domain (FDTD) is presented to calculate the radiation characteristics of wire antennas on space probes. The method is versatile and can treat conductor loss, arbitrary‐shaped probes, and wires as well as inhomogenities. Numerical results are obtained and compared with those for a few specific cases available in the literature. Additionally, laboratory models of the antennas have been built and their properties have been measured for comparison with computed results. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

In this paper we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the stability of the finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD method). This is an explicit time stepping method that is used for solving transient electromagnetic field problems. A necessary (but not a sufficient) condition for its sta

## Abstract A novel approach for the interpolation of dispersive materials for use in the finite‐difference time‐domain (FDTD) method is presented. The method allows for the simulation of geometrical structures that cannot be aligned to the discretized grid. Materials overlapping multiple cells are
