✦ Synopsis

Abstract

In this case report, we described the fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of myositis ossificans (MO) in a young boy. The patient presented with a painful hard mass in the upper right thigh and restricted range of motion around hip joint since 2 weeks. He had history of trauma. Computerized tomographic (CT) scan showed a heterogeneous mass in the upper part of quadriceps with peripheral areas of calcification and central hyperlucency. The FNAC smear of MO shows fibroblasts, osteoblasts, multinucleated giant cells, degenerated muscle cells and osteoid. Clinical presentation along with cytology and radiologic findings are helpful to diagnose this entity. Diagn. Cytopathol. 2011. Β© 2010 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
