prominent international environmental activists, environment industry exhibitors and representatives from government, native organizations, financial institutions and international agencies from 74 countries got down to business at GLOBE '92 -North America's largest integrated conference and trade fair on bus~ness and the environment. While approaches and proposals often differed, all major stakeholders focused on the common goals of finding practical, long-term solutions to global environmental problems -and identifying the related business opportunities and responsibilities.

GLOBE '92 was the second in the GLOBE series of Trade Fairs and Conferences on Business and the Environment. The event is a cooperative venture between Major Event Management Inc. and the Government of Canada, with major sponsorship by the host province of British Columbia. GLOBE '92 also had the support of 18 corporate sponsors and 134 Promotional Partners from around the world.

The Conference, held March 16 to 20 at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre, attracted 2,700 participants from 74 countries. Some 400 speakers made presentations in 70 sessions. A wide range of issues affecting progress toward sustainable development were examined in depth in the following areas: policy and legislation; economics and finance; technology and research; communications, education and training; international and urban development; energy; manufacturing and resource processing; forestry and forest products; food, agriculture and fisheries; and tourism. Some 16 Conference sessions were devoted to evaluating the latest tools and techniques used in environmetal management.
