โฆ Synopsis
The American Society for the Testing of Materials (ASTM) held the above symposium between 25 and 27 January 1994 in San Francisco, USA. Approximately 200 delegates attended with 80 presented papers, in two parallel sessions. Over one third of the presentations were from outside the USA and around 15 countries were represented. ISO meetings, and also tutorial sessions, on protective clothing, had been held prior to the meeting and a number of national experts made presentations at the symposium.
Implicitly or explicitly, ergonomics was a central theme in many presentations, reflecting recent trends and general acceptance of the user-oriented approach to the design of protective clothing. This can be contrasted with previous practices, where clothing materials were tested with little reference to the wearer.
