✦ Synopsis

Fifth CH overtone spectra of ethylene, cis-, tram-, and l,l-ethylene-d,, and 1,1,2-ethylene-d, are reported. Frequency shifts of the CH overtone band positions and the presence of combination bands involving the excitation of five quanta of CH stretch plus one quantum of CD stretch are observed and discussed in terms of coupling between local mode oscillators attached to the same carbon atom of the ethylene skeleton.
