Landscape ecology emphasizes interactions in space and time and exchanges across heterogeneous land areas. A major focus of landscape ecology includes the responses of society to these changes in spatial and temporal patterns, as well as society's influences on these patterns. This symposium will emphasize the importance of an increased understanding of the principles and practice of landscape ecology regarding its role in public policy, resource management, regional planning and land use design.
