The possibility that fibre diameter is a factor in the transfer of wool fibres is discussed in relation to a recent case. Fibre diameter may be important in the fragmentation of fibres under pressure, and may result in a greater proportion of fine, as opposed to coarse, woollen fibres being transferred to a recipient garment. Therefore, there may be selective transfer of fine over coarse woollen fibres when there is a wide range of fibre diameters in the donor item.
